LG has officially announced it will terminate all mobile phone software update services by June 30, 2025, marking the final chapter in its smartphone business exit. The shutdown affects FOTA (Firmware Over The Air), the Update Center app, and LG Bridge, the PC-based update tool. After this date, LG phone users will no longer be able to update their devices—whether via over-the-air updates or through service centers.

The announcement affects all LG smartphones, regardless of model or release year. LG has urged users to update their devices before the deadline. Once the services go offline, even default apps that were deleted during factory resets will not be re-downloadable, and software-related support will cease entirely.

LG exited the smartphone market in 2021, but had continued offering limited software updates as part of its exit roadmap. This latest notice makes it clear: that era is officially ending.

Additionally, LG has stated that any personal data collected during the update process will be permanently deleted unless retention is required under local laws.

For users still holding on to LG devices, this may be the final nudge to consider an upgrade, especially if software longevity and security are priorities.
