It took almost 10 years for Microsoft to fix this small issue with Windows 11 dark mode

Microsoft is addressing long-standing dark mode inconsistencies in Windows 11, as the tech giant is now providing consistency across various File Explorer actions, which were earlier showcased in the light theme, even after applying darker themes. These inconsistencies were particularly evident when trying to copy, delete, or provide file permissions for a single large file or multiple files on Windows 11.

However, with the latest Windows 11 preview build 26100.5061, as spotted by leaker Phantomofearth, the updated interface elements reveal that Microsoft is working on a more consistent dark mode experience in progress bars and charts views, confirmation and error dialogs, or while file copying or pasting operations.

This is a big improvement over the native dark mode theme of Windows 11, which was first introduced by Microsoft in Windows 10, back in 2016. Since then, many industry observers have long criticised Microsoft's incomplete dark mode implementation, especially when compared to Apple's detailed system-wide dark theme that launched with macOS Mojave in 2018.

It's unclear when these changes will roll out for all stable Windows 11 and Copilot+ PC users. However, as these changes are now being included in one of the latest Preview Builds, it's only a matter of time before these dark mode changes are included with the stable release. The company also needs to add a dark theme for other legacy interface elements, including the Registry Editor and Group Policy windows, to achieve a system wide dark mode application for Windows 11 users.
