iPhone 18 could come with more RAM, reports suggest

Apple’s upcoming iPhone 18 series may see a major memory boost, with all models expected to feature at least 12GB of RAM as the company expands AI capabilities and pushes suppliers like Samsung to increase high-performance memory output.

Apple’s next-generation iPhone 18 lineup may come with up to 50% more memory than the current models, according to a report from Korea’s The Bell.

The current iPhone range,  including the iPhone Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max, ships with 12GB of RAM, a 4GB increase over the previous generation. The bump was mainly driven by the growing hardware demands of on-device AI features. However, the standard iPhone 17 continues to use 8GB of RAM, creating a gap between base and Pro models.

That difference could disappear with the iPhone 18 lineup. The report claims Apple plans to standardise memory across all variants, with every model potentially getting at least 12GB — and possibly up to 16GB in the higher-end versions. To prepare for this, Apple has reportedly asked its primary RAM supplier, Samsung, to ramp up production of LPDDR5X chips.

Samsung’s LPDDR5X modules, introduced in 2024, are currently offered in 12GB and 16GB capacities, suggesting that the 8GB base model may soon be phased out. Apple is also said to be in discussions with SK Hynix and Micron to secure additional memory supplies ahead of mass production.

According to the report, Apple is planning to unveil the iPhone Air 2, iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and its first foldable iPhone in late 2026, followed by the iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e in early 2027.
