India’s phone market is buzzing again, with Vivo, Samsung, and Apple topping the charts. Sales grew in the second quarter of 2025, thanks to hit models like the iPhone 16, popular Redmi phones, and new Galaxy launches. But experts say rising prices could slow things down later this year.
iPhone 16 tops the charts
Apple had a particularly strong run, shipping 5.9 million iPhones in the first six months of 2025, up 21.5% year-over-year. The iPhone 16 was the single best-selling model in India, making up 4% of all smartphone shipments in the first half.
Vivo stays on top, Samsung close behind
Vivo held onto its No.1 position for the sixth straight quarter thanks to a balanced range of devices across price segments and sales channels. Samsung remained in second place, growing 21% with popular Galaxy A, M, and F series phones many of which now feature AI-powered tools. Oppo came in third, boosted by affordable new models like the K13 and A5x and an emphasis on after-sales service.
Budget to premium: winners in each segment
The entry-level segment (under Rs 8,300) saw shipments jump 22.9%, with Xiaomi’s Redmi A4 and A5 leading the charge. In the premium range (Rs 50,000–66,500), shipments almost doubled, led largely by the iPhone 16 and iPhone 15. Meanwhile, in the super-premium category (above Rs 66,500), Samsung overtook Apple with its Galaxy S25 and S24 Ultra models.
Offline sales on the rise
Offline sales channels grew 14.3% and now account for more than half of all shipments, helped by better retailer margins, in-store promotions, and price cuts. Online sales remained flat year-over-year.
IDC predicts that smartphone shipments in India may still see a slight decline in 2025 as prices rise and budget-conscious buyers pull back. Still, premium phones — especially iPhones — continue to enjoy strong demand.
