iOS 26 is a major update for iPhone, featuring a Liquid Glass design and enhancements to apps such as Wallet, Messages, and Music. Apple Calendar may have been overlooked during the rollout, but it gains a notable new feature: the ability to create events from screenshots.
The update changes the default behaviour of screenshots, which now open in a fullscreen interface rather than appearing as a floating thumbnail in the bottom-left corner. While users can revert to the previous thumbnail style, the fullscreen UI unlocks new capabilities powered by Apple Intelligence on AI-compatible iPhones.
One of these capabilities is the ‘Add to Calendar’ button. When a screenshot contains event information, this button appears at the bottom of the fullscreen screenshot view, allowing users to convert the content into a calendar entry. If you use the thumbnail view, you must first tap the screenshot to access the fullscreen mode to see the button.
Using ‘Add to Calendar’ is straightforward. After tapping the button, you can preview the proposed event in Apple Calendar. If the details are correct, a single tap on ‘Create Event’ will add it to your calendar. If adjustments are needed, the ‘Edit’ button opens the standard Calendar event creation panel, allowing changes such as selecting a different calendar or modifying event details.
This feature provides a simple yet powerful way to add events, making Apple Calendar more convenient for iPhone users who frequently capture schedules from websites, emails, or messages. Once accustomed to this workflow, the screenshot integration becomes a clear differentiator for Apple’s default Calendar app.
For users who prefer third-party calendar apps, iOS 26 allows integration by adding calendar accounts through Settings ⇾ Apps ⇾ Calendar ⇾ Calendar Accounts. While some services may present minor syncing challenges, the screenshot-to-calendar function remains accessible, offering a practical option even if most events are managed in a separate app.
