Instagram now lets users add comments to Stories: Feature details, things to know and how it is different from replies

Expanding the feature list on the Platform, Meta has started rolling out a new feature on Instagram that allows users to leave comments on Instagram Stories. The new comments feature for Stories was announced by Mark Zuckerberg via his official Instagram channel.

With the new feature, users can now respond to Instagram Stories beyond the like and share options by leaving a comment instead of replying to them in private DM. However, the comments will be visible publicly, unlike DM replies which were only visible to the user who has posted the story.

While the feature is good and offers more interaction options to users. It comes with its own share of limitations.

Users can comment in Stories only if they follow the poster and the poster also follows them.

Comments will be visible publicly

Comments are temporary and will disappear with the story – after 24 hours.

Users can turn on or off the comments for Stories.

Difference between comments and replies in Instagram Stories

Replies in Stories are done via DMs and only the send and the receiver see those replies. However, comments are visible to all publicly or at least people who follow the person who has posted the story.
