Instagram introduces Trial Reels feature for creators: All the details

Instagram has announced the launch of a new feature called Trial Reels, aimed at helping creators experiment with new content ideas without the fear of immediate judgment from their followers. “Introducing trial reels, a new way to try out content and see what performs best, by giving you the option to share reels with people who don’t follow you,” said Instagram in a blog post.

How will the feature work?

As the name suggests, the feature gives creators a chance to ‘test’ their reel with non-followers. Creators will see a toggle the "Trial" option before sharing. This will make the reel visible only to non-followers initially. After 24 hours, creators can access key engagement metrics such as views, likes, comments, and shares to gauge the performance of their content. If the trial reel performs well, creators can choose to share it with their followers or set it to automatically publish. “If you’ve ever found yourself wanting to experiment with new ideas without the worry of how your followers might react, trial reels give you the freedom to take your creativity even further while helping to take the guesswork out of how your content could perform,” said Instagram.

Things to keep in mind

Instagram says that Trial reels can take longer to gain views because “we're finding non-followers who will enjoy the content” Also, trial reels shouldn't impact the performance of users’ regular reels content.

Trial reels will be accessible to only those who have a professional Instagram account. Also, some followers may still see your reel in other places. “For example, someone might share your reel with them in a direct message or on a page that shows reels with the same audio, location or filter,” explained Instagram.
