How to transfer passwords from Google to Apple: A step-by-step guide

Switching from an Android device or Google Chrome to an iPhone or Mac can be a daunting task. Not because you might feel jittery about the new OS experience or the learning curve. It is because of all those passwords. Fortunately, Apple makes it relatively easy to import your Google passwords into iCloud Keychain, allowing you to access them across all Apple devices. Here’s how you can do it. There are three parts to doing so and we break it down.

Step 1: Export passwords from Google Chrome

• Open Google Chrome on your computer.
• Click on the three-dot menu in the top-right corner and go to Settings.
• Select Autofill and Passwords, then click Google Password Manager.
• Click on Settings (gear icon) and select Export passwords.
• Chrome will prompt you to confirm your identity using your system password. Click Export and save the file as a .CSV file on your computer.

• Open Safari on your Mac.
• Click Safari in the menu bar, then select Settings (or Preferences in older macOS versions).
• Navigate to the Passwords tab and click Import Passwords.
• Select the .CSV file you exported from Google Chrome.
• Safari will import and encrypt the passwords into iCloud Keychain.

Once imported, your passwords will sync across all Apple devices linked to your iCloud account, including iPhones and iPads.

That’s about it. Just don’t forget to delete the .CSV file after importing passwords, as it stores sensitive information in an unencrypted format.
