WhatsApp has started rolling out a new feature that allows users to add music to their Status updates, bringing the experience closer to Instagram and Facebook Stories. With this, users can now attach audio clips of up to 15 seconds for images and up to 60 seconds for video Status updates, enabling more creative and expressive content sharing.
How to add music to your WhatsApp Status
To use this feature, ensure that your WhatsApp app is updated to the latest version on Android or iOS. Once updated, follow these steps:
1. Open WhatsApp and tap the Updates tab.
2. Select the Add Status option.
3. Choose an image or video from your media gallery.
4. Tap the music icon at the top of the screen.
5. Select a local song from the displayed list or browse your device for the desired track.
6. Use the slider to pick the exact part of the song you want to add.
7. Tap Done to return to the editing screen.
8. Adjust your audience settings or add mentions if needed.
9. Tap the green send icon to publish your Status.
Key features
• Music support for images and videos: You can add 15 seconds of music to an image or up to 60 seconds to a video in your Status.
• End-to-end encryption: As with all WhatsApp messages, Status updates with music are end-to-end encrypted.
• 24-hour limit: Music-added Status updates, like regular ones, disappear after 24 hours.
Things to keep in mind
• The feature is still being rolled out globally, so it may not be available on all devices yet.
• Only songs saved on your device can be used at the moment; WhatsApp does not offer an online music library.
• Statuses with music are still subject to WhatsApp’s privacy settings—ensure you review who can see your updates
