If you have been keeping up with GTA 6 news, then you know that Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar Games, is hopeful that the highly anticipated open-world game will launch in Fall 2025 itself. Now, with the announcement of the release date of Borderlands 4, another title under Take-Two (2K Games is the publisher), the release time frame of GTA 6 has been narrowed down and it may be the case that GTA 6 takes a bit longer to arrive.
There is a strategic reason for this. In a highly competitive video game market, no company would want to release two of its heavyweight titles close to each other. Since Gearbox Software’s Borderlands 4 is now confirmed to come out on September 23, the Grand Theft Auto release date could be pushed further to give Borderlands 4 some initial boost among players.
As per a report by RockstarIntel, Take-Two Interactive told investors in November 2024 that they were targeting Borderlands 4 release between April 1, 2025 and March 31, 2026. This was after Rockstar Games-owner confirmed GTA 6 for a Fall 2025 release.
Take-Two has no intention of releasing both the games close together, CEO Strauss Zelnick reportedly said in an interview on the same day. “I think it’s safe to say that we wouldn’t, and no one would, stack up huge releases unnecessarily”, Zelnick had said.
That being said, we can assume that GTA 6 won’t launch in September. The release date of Rockstar Games’ open-world RPG can be pushed to late October or November. Or even, December, if Take-Two wishes to give Borderlands 4 a good two months of breathing room.
