London-bound Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner carrying 242 passengers and crew crashed shortly after take-off from Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on Thursday, June 12, 2025. Google CEO Sundar Pichai expressed deep sorrow over the tragic Air India plane crash via a post on X.
In a heartfelt message posted on X (formerly Twitter), the Indian-born tech executive offered condolences to the families of those affected and acknowledged the courage of first responders.
“Heartbroken for everyone who lost loved ones in today’s plane crash in Ahmedabad and grateful for those who rushed to help ️”, Pichai wrote on X.

Air India flight AI 171, a London-bound Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, crashed minutes after taking off from Ahmedabad airport at 1:39 PM on June 12, 2025. The aircraft went down in Meghani Nagar, a densely populated residential area, causing massive destruction and fire. Of the 242 people onboard, 241 have been confirmed dead, with only one survivor. The crash also led to casualties and injuries on the ground. Former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani was among the victims. Eyewitnesses reported a loud explosion and saw thick smoke billowing from the crash site, prompting immediate rescue and firefighting efforts.
