After months of rumours and speculations, Rockstar Games has officially confirmed that its highly anticipated open-world blockbuster game, Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6), won't be making its previously announced fall 2025 release window, and will instead release next year. In a statement, Rockstar apologized for the significant delay to the game, putting out a statement on the social media platform X.

GTA 6 delayed to 2026, official release date confirmed
Rockstar Games, through a new post on its official X account, confirmed that GTA 6 will launch next year on May 26, 2026. The post is accompanied by a short letter explaining the reasoning behind the delay. Unfortunately, Rockstar has not given any concrete reason why the game has been delayed. However, the company has assured that GTA 6 is being delayed to deliver the best quality the fans deserve.
This is not the first time the publisher has delayed its games, as previously, GTA 5’s release was also postponed about four months later than originally planned. Moreover, Rockstar also delayed Red Dead Redemption 2 three times in a year after the announcement of its release in 2017, before eventually putting out the game in October 2018.
We can expect some more details regarding the game’s delay during the parent company Take-Two’s next financial results on May 15. Moreover, this postponement will also give Rockstar enough time to finish developing GTA 6, and give users one of the best open-world games.
