In a bid to give parents more control over their children’s devices, Google has announced a slew of new features. In a blog post, Google said that the Family Link app will now gives parents more control.
Google Family Link is a free app that helps parents manage their child's Android phone or tablet. It allows parents to set screen time limits, manage apps and websites, and track their child's location.
One of the most significant updates is the addition of a new Screen Time tab. This tab allows parents to easily manage screen time limits and Downtime. They can also see a breakdown of their child's screen time usage by app and website. Another new feature is the ability to easily manage their child's account, privacy settings, and content filters on the Controls tab.
School Time, previously available on smartwatches, is coming to Android phones and tablets, revealed Google. This means that parents can now use Family Link to set a time period during the day when their child's device is locked and they cannot use apps or websites.
Parents can also now approve contacts for their kids to call and text on Android phones. “We understand there are times when certain apps are useful for studying, which is why parents can choose a set of allowed apps, and select which are allowed during School time or in other selected modes,” said Google in a blog post.
These new features help parents keep their kids safe online and foster healthy digital habits, claims Google.
