Google is making it easier for people around the world to understand complex information in their own language, thanks to a big update to NotebookLM. The AI-powered tool, which expanded globally last year, now supports Audio Overviews in more than 50 languages — including Hindi, Turkish, and Afrikaans.
So what are Audio Overviews? They are basically podcast-style summaries of your notes or study material. You upload your sources, and NotebookLM turns them into a friendly audio conversation — kind of like having an AI co-host walk you through the key points. This feature launched late last year and became a hit almost instantly.
Now, thanks to Google’s Gemini AI, these Audio Overviews are available in many more languages — from Afrikaans to Hindi to Turkish. That means more people around the world can use it in the language they’re most comfortable with.
The update also adds a handy new setting called Output Language. Once you choose your preferred language in NotebookLM’s settings, your audio summaries — and even the chatbot responses — will be in that language. And yes, you can change it anytime.
This could be super useful for students, teachers, or anyone working with content in multiple languages. For example, say a teacher is preparing a lesson about the Amazon rainforest using a mix of materials — a Portuguese documentary, a Spanish article, and an English report. Students can upload these into NotebookLM and get an audio summary in the language they prefer. It’s a great way to break language barriers and make learning easier for everyone.
Google says this is just the beginning. They’re planning to keep improving the feature based on user feedback. But for now, it’s already a pretty powerful tool — especially if you like learning by listening.
