Google’s NotebookLM app arrives on Android and iOS: Here’s how it works and why it’s useful

Whether you're a student, a professional, or just someone juggling a lot of content, the NotebookLM app aims to simplify how you absorb, review, and interact with information.

Notebook LM

Google has officially rolled out the mobile version of NotebookLM, its AI-powered note-taking and research tool, for both Android and iOS devices. Originally launched for desktop users in 2023, NotebookLM was designed to help users make sense of complex information. Now, with the mobile app, that helpful assistant can fit right in your pocket.

Whether you're a student, a professional, or just someone juggling a lot of content, the NotebookLM app aims to simplify how you absorb, review, and interact with information.

So, what does the app do?

NotebookLM allows users to upload materials like PDFs, website links, YouTube videos, or pasted text into a notebook. Once added, Google’s AI steps in to provide summaries, explanations, and answers to questions about that content.

Key features to know:

–Audio Overviews: One of the standout features is audio-based summaries. But these aren’t robotic readings. The AI creates conversational-style audio summaries that feel more like a podcast discussion than a textbook. And yes, you can download these and listen offline, whether you’re in a subway tunnel or saving on data.

–Ask questions on the go: If you’re listening to a summary and want to dig deeper, you can tap “Join” and ask your own questions. The AI responds, helping you understand the material better—instantly.

–Save from anywhere: Found something interesting while browsing? You can easily share content (like a YouTube video or a webpage) directly to NotebookLM using your phone’s share option.

NotebookLM also supports background playback, making it ideal for multitaskers who want to absorb knowledge while cooking, commuting, or working out.

The app is now live on the App Store (iOS 17 and above) and the Play Store (Android 10 and up). Google says more features are on the way, but even this first version is packed with tools that could change how we study and work with information.

If you're someone who deals with lots of reading or research, this app might just become your new best friend.
