Earlier at the start of this year, Google started to test a new UI for its voice search in the Play Store, which traditionally appears like a pop-up after a user taps the mic icon beside the search window. The company has now started to roll out this revamped user interface for Google Play Store’s voice search functionality, which could streamline how users discover and interact with apps on Android devices.
Google Play Store gets updated voice search user interface: Key details
As highlighted by an Android Authority report, Google is now updating the voice search icon on the Play Store with version 44.7.24-31 of the app. Now, after a user taps the mic icon, Play Store users will get a new design that introduces a fresh aesthetic, which includes a dedicated search history, allowing users to revisit previous queries easily. This change represents Google’s effort to integrate voice search more seamlessly into the app discovery process.
Moreover, with this revamped design, users will see the Google logo alongside a mic icon inside a pulsating circle, which says ‘Try saying something,’ and the language setting. However, unlike the Google app, which uses the entirety of the screen for voice search, the Play Store implementation is only visible in the bottom half of the screen.
This new voice search UI is only active within the app's Search tab, which is among the five bottom bar tabs in the Play Store app. The report also confirms that this feature is currently being rolled out to Android users in batches, with a broader rollout expected to happen in the coming days, with the latest version of the Google Play Store.
