In a push to make iOS users switch to the Gemini app that was introduced last year, Google has removed Gemini AI from the main Google app, as per a report by 9to5Mac. In an email sent to users, the California-based tech giant said that the new Gemini app is the best place to use the AI assistant and users should download it from the Apple App Store.
“We’re making some changes to create an even better Gemini experience on iOS. Gemini is now available as its own app, and that’s now the best place to use Gemini. To continue using Gemini, download the new Gemini app from the App Store. With the Gemini app, you’ll have access to all of the same features and more”, said Google.
Google has been expanding on the Gemini AI experience for some time, and adding new features to the AI assistant. However, the main Google app on iOS has not been updated with these features, which makes it clear that Google wants iOS users to switch to the full Gemini app for iOS to continue using Gemini.
The main Google app on iOS acted as a switcher between Google Search and Gemini. But in February 2025, Google removed the switcher interface. However, iOS users on Google app v356.0 can still use the Gemini experience in the app via the “More” tab, says the report.
