Google releases December 2025 update for Pixel smartphones with new features and bug fixes

Google has released its December 2025 software update earlier this week for all supported Pixel devices running Android 16, with major bug fixes, new AI-powered features, customisations, and improvements across system performance. The highlight of this update is the introduction of notification summaries for individual messages and group chats, along with a new notification organiser.

Google’s December update for Pixel smartphones: Key highlights

Through a new blog post, Google has announced its December quarterly update is now being released with the firmware version BP4A.251205.006 to eligible Pixel phones and tablets. This update introduces various customisation options and AI-powered features, and a substantial list of bug fixes aimed at improving day-to-day reliability.

For starters, several display-related problems, particularly on the Pixel 10 series, have been addressed, which caused the screen to flash, freeze, turn black or become unusually dim occasionally. Moreover, the bugs related to the 80% charge limits are also now fixed. Bluetooth stability has also been enhanced, with a fix for random pairing issues affecting certain accessories.

Google has also announced that soon the Android 16 QPR2 update will start displaying AI-generated notification summaries, which will organise lengthy text messages and group chat threads, allowing users to get a summary from a long list of chats. Moreover, the notification organiser will also silence notifications, like promotions, news, and other unimportant alerts. A new Dark Theme setting is also included in the update, which automatically darkens most non-supported apps to conserve battery.

Another area that Google focused heavily on is system reliability, including improvements in better memory management and smoother picture-in-picture performance. In addition, Google has fixed random camera and Wi-Fi issues, especially for the Pixel 9 and 10 series devices. This update is now being rolled out for Pixel 6 and later smartphones and tablets, including the recently introduced Pixel 10 family.
