Google is reportedly creating new AI-powered chatbots based on celebrities and YouTube influencers. These character-based chatbots, powered by Google's large language model (LLM), could have the voices of celebrities or even be customized by users, according to their preferences. Moreover, these customisable bots are said to be designed to have conversations and not just to answer user queries like Gemini AI.

According to a report by the Information via 9to5Google, the tech giant is trying to bring numerous celebrities and influencers on board for this project. It will also let users create their very own chatbots, a feature already available to Character.ai or Meta AI users.

Further, the report highlights that these bots are said to be powered by Gemini, but it is currently unclear whether it would use the Gemini 1.5 Pro or the previously launched Gemini 1.0 model. However, it is a standalone project and is different from other Google services.

The report also doesn't specify the list of the celebrity or social influencers’ voices included in these AI chatbots. Meta has already partnered with several popular influencers and celebrities such as Kendall Jenner, Charli D'Amelio, MrBeast, Tom Brady, and more, and also released AI-based characters of these celebrities on their Messenger app.

However, celebrity-voiced character-based chatbots were mainly popularised by character.ai, where users can also create AI bots by adding a text prompt describing the character and its personality. It currently has voices of popular celebrities and characters like Elon Musk, Tony Stark, Batman, and more.

The launch date of this project is also under wraps and the report suggests Google Labs might unveil it within 2024.
