Google launched its first Pixel Tablet in 2023, but it quickly fell behind flagship competitors from OnePlus and Samsung. The first-generation tablet also focused on being a dockable home screen, initially shipping with a speaker dock in the box. However, it seems the company could be planning to take its follow-up in a different direction with the upcoming Pixel Tablet 2.
Google Pixel Tablet 2: Expected features
According to a report by Android Authority via an unnamed insider source, Google is expected to use a Tensor G4 or Tensor G5 chipset for the Pixel Tablet 3. This is expected to increase the performance of the device by more than 30% compared to the original Pixel Tablet, which came with the Tensor G2 SoC. In addition, it is also expected to receive 7-year software support.
Further, Google is working on a keyboard cover prototype for the Pixel Tablet 2. According to the report, the keyboard cover for the tablet docks onto the tablet via rear pogo pins. It also doubles up as a stand to keep the tablet standing up in landscape mode. Moreover, the tablet is also being tipped to come with a newer camera, improving on the 8MP snapper from the 2023 model.
There might also be a new stylus with this tablet. Although the launch date has not yet been suggested, the Google Pixel Tablet 2 is expected to arrive somewhere in 2025. The report also adds that it could run on Android 15 or boot with the upcoming Android 16 operating system.
