Google’s upcoming Pixel 9a might come with a big upgrade—satellite connectivity. If true, this would make it the first mid-range Android phone to have this feature, something Apple introduced with its iPhone 14 series.
According to an FCC certification, the Pixel 9a is listed with model number GTF7P, which hints at satellite support. A note in the filing mentions that the feature must be turned off during flights, confirming that it will likely be included. Google first brought Emergency SOS via Satellite to its flagship Pixel 9 series last year, allowing users to reach emergency services even without WiFi or a cellular network. It looks like the feature will now make its way to the more affordable Pixel A-series.
The Pixel 9a is expected to launch earlier than usual, possibly by the end of March, instead of Google's typical I/O event in April. It has already received multiple certifications, which hints towards an imminent release.
Leaks suggest the Pixel 9a will feature a Tensor G4 chip, 8GB RAM, and a 5,100mAh battery with 23W wired and 7.5W wireless charging. It may also sport a 48MP main camera and ditch the signature Pixel camera bar for a flat frame design.
The phone is rumored to start at $499 (Rs 43,605) for the 128GB variant, with sales possibly beginning on March 26.
With satellite connectivity on board, the Pixel 9a could stand out in the mid-range market. More details should emerge soon, so stay tuned!
