Google launches repair initiative for Pixel 9 Pro displays and extends warranty for Pixel 9 Pro Fold

Google has rolled out new support measures for its latest flagship phones, introducing a dedicated repair programme for the Pixel 9 Pro series and a separate extended warranty for the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. Both steps follow the company’s internal assessment that certain units may develop issues affecting overall functionality, particularly around the display.

For Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL users, Google has created an Extended Repair Program that specifically targets two display-related faults. The first is a persistent vertical line running from the top to the bottom of the screen, and the second is a flickering display. Both issues have been documented by owners since launch, and Google now acknowledges that a limited number of devices may be prone to these defects. Eligibility hinges on the presence of these exact symptoms, and the device must be free from unrelated damage such as cracks or impact wear. The programme covers affected phones for up to three years from the original retail purchase date, and users can verify eligibility via Google’s support site.

The company has also introduced an Extended Warranty Program for the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. The exact fault behind this new warranty is not fully explained, but Google indicates that some units may face problems significant enough to impair functionality, with the wording strongly suggesting a link to the display. Foldable panels are inherently more delicate, and Google’s documentation mentions that cracked screens, compromised cover-glass, or liquid intrusion will disqualify a device. A follow-up FAQ hints at display-related concerns by referencing customers who previously paid for screen replacements before 8 December 2025. Unlike the Pixel 9 Pro repair scheme, this warranty opens the possibility of a full device replacement at no charge, provided the issue falls within Google’s criteria.

Both support extensions apply for three years from the date the device was purchased brand new. While the Pixel 9 Pro and 9 Pro XL are only guaranteed repairs, the Fold model may qualify for an outright replacement. The lack of detailed explanation around the Fold’s underlying fault leaves some questions unanswered, but Google is expected to clarify the conditions further as more owners come forward.
