Google is deepening Gemini AI integration across Workspace, introducing new features that streamline how users interact with PDFs, Google Forms, and other documents. The updates aim to cut through information overload by delivering on-demand summaries and context-aware actions—without needing to open multiple tabs or read every word.
Starting June 12, Workspace users began receiving Gemini-powered file summarization for PDFs and Google Forms, a move that brings Google Drive’s smart summaries to more formats. When users open a PDF in Drive, Gemini now generates a summary card with clickable options tailored to the document—like “draft a sample proposal” or “list interview questions.”
“Now, upon opening a PDF, Gemini will proactively summarise the contents of the file and show relevant, clickable actions, such as “Draft a sample proposal” or “List interview questions based on this resume”,” said Google in a blog post.
The tool, available in over 20 languages, presents these actions in the Drive side panel for quick follow-ups.
Gemini AI in Google Forms
For Google Forms, Gemini can now analyse short-answer and paragraph responses, providing instant summaries that highlight key themes. The AI considers the form’s title, description, and replies to identify patterns and actionable insights. This feature kicks in once a question receives more than three responses and is currently limited to English, with a broader rollout starting June 26.
Another productivity booster is the “Help Me Create” feature in Forms, powered by Gemini. By describing what they need—like a feedback form, survey, or quote request—users can have Gemini automatically draft the form. It also allows referencing supporting documents like Docs, Sheets, Slides, or PDFs, making it ideal for tasks like auto-generating client questionnaires from product catalogues. This tool also launches in English and starts rolling out July 7.
