There’s been a lot of buzz lately about whether Google might sell its popular web browser, Chrome. With pressure building from antitrust cases and reports that buyers are lining up, many people are wondering what’s really going on. Now, Google CEO Sundar Pichai has addressed the rumors in a recent interview with The Verge.

When asked if Google could continue doing everything it wants to do if forced to sell Chrome, Pichai didn’t give a direct yes or no. But he made it pretty clear that selling Chrome isn’t part of Google’s plans.

“I don’t think that’s the scenario we’re looking at,” he said.

Pichai went on to explain how important Chrome is to Google and to the internet in general. He talked about how Chrome helped shape the web into what it is today.

“I was directly involved in building Chrome,” he said. “We didn’t just improve our own product, we improved the state of the web. We open-sourced it, gave access to Chromium, and invested heavily in security and innovation.”

He also pointed out that other browsers, like Microsoft Edge and Brave, are built using Google’s Chromium platform. So even if Chrome is under scrutiny, its impact is much bigger than just one app.

As for what Google would do if things changed, Pichai kept things positive.

“As a company, we’ll continue to invest, innovate, and build a successful business in any scenario,” he said.

So, for now, there’s no plan to sell Chrome. Despite the noise and legal talk, Pichai’s comments suggest Google is standing by its browser and plans to keep it right where it is.
