Google is supercharging its Search experience with advanced AI tools, including the rollout of Gemini 2.5 Pro and a research-oriented Deep Search feature — both available to Google AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers in the US These tools are part of the company’s ongoing push to make Search more intelligent, useful, and hands-off for users.
Starting now, subscribers can switch to the Gemini 2.5 Pro model directly in the AI Mode of Search. This model handles complex queries, especially those involving math, reasoning, or coding, offering deeper insights along with relevant source links. While the default AI Mode remains fast and general-purpose, users now have the option to access more analytical responses when needed.
Google is also rolling out Deep Search, a research-heavy tool that leverages Gemini 2.5 Pro to run hundreds of queries behind the scenes. It then distills the findings into a comprehensive, cited report. Designed for tasks like career research, financial planning, or academic study, Deep Search promises to cut hours of work down to minutes. It’s part of the experimental Labs program and currently exclusive to users opted into AI Mode in the U.S.
In addition to these upgrades, Google is introducing a genuinely agentic capability: AI-powered phone calls. Users searching for local services — say, “pet groomers near me” — can now tap a “Have AI check pricing” button. Google’s AI will then call local businesses, gather appointment details, and return a comparison of options — all without the user making a single call.
The feature is rolling out broadly in the US, with expanded access and higher limits for AI Pro and Ultra subscribers.
