At I/O 2025, Google quietly but decisively reshaped its AI subscription strategy. Google One AI Premium and Gemini Advanced were folded into a simpler brand called Google AI Pro, while a far more expensive tier, Google AI Ultra, was introduced for users who want maximum access across Gemini, Search, Workspace, media tools and developer agents. As of December 2025, the gap between the free tier, AI Pro and AI Ultra is substantial.
Here is a clear breakdown of what each tier actually gives you.
Free Gemini experience
Free users now get a more capable Gemini than earlier in the year, especially in the US. The Gemini app offers general access to Gemini 3 Flash for everyday queries, with basic daily access to Thinking and Pro models, though limits can change frequently.
The context window is capped at 32,000 tokens, roughly equivalent to around 50 pages of text. Audio Overviews are available up to 20 times per day, while Deep Research is limited to five reports per month using the Thinking model.
Image generation and editing is also included, but at low limits. Nano Banana allows up to 100 images per day, Nano Banana Pro is restricted to three images per day, and Dynamic View supports up to 25 prompts daily. Slide generation is capped at 20 presentations per day.
Free users in the US also get access to Google Search AI Mode powered by Gemini 3 Pro for complex reasoning tasks, again with daily limits. Create Images Pro is also available at a limited level.
Google AI Pro
Google AI Pro replaces Google One AI Premium and costs $19.99 per month in the US. The rebrand does not change pricing, but it dramatically expands usage limits and unlocks Gemini across Google’s ecosystem.
In the Gemini app, AI Pro subscribers get expanded access to Thinking and Pro models with up to 100 prompts per day. Deep Research using Gemini 3 Pro increases to 20 reports per day. Image generation scales up sharply, with Nano Banana allowing up to 1,000 images per day and Nano Banana Pro up to 100 images per day. Dynamic View increases to 250 prompts daily.
AI Pro also unlocks scheduled actions, with up to 10 active automations at a time. Veo 3.1 Fast enables three video generations per day, and spreadsheet and code analysis tools are fully available. The context window expands to one million tokens, equivalent to roughly 1,500 pages of text or 30,000 lines of code.
Gemini is deeply integrated into Google Workspace under AI Pro. The Gemini side panel and inline assistance work across Gmail, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Meet and Chat. Subscribers also get access to Google Vids, an AI-powered video creation tool designed for presentations, explainers and internal communication. It supports stock media, screen recording, narration, voiceovers, music and collaborative editing.
In Google Search AI Mode, AI Pro users receive higher usage limits for Gemini 3 Pro and Deep Search. These queries trigger hundreds of background searches and produce long, fully cited reports. Google may ask follow-up questions before generating results. AI-powered calling for local business pricing is also included.
AI Pro now bundles Google Home Premium Standard, previously known as Nest Aware. This includes 30 days of event-based video history, intelligent alerts such as familiar faces and package detection, and Gemini Live on supported Nest devices. Users can also create automations using natural language and store household preferences for personalised responses. Google Home Premium Advanced is available as a $10 add-on.
Google Photos gains higher remix and photo-to-video generation limits under AI Pro. NotebookLM, previously NotebookLM Plus, also sees a major upgrade. AI Pro users get up to 20 Audio Overviews per day, 500 notebooks, 300 sources per notebook, 500 chat queries per day, advanced response styles, analytics and chat-only sharing.
Storage is another major inclusion. AI Pro comes with 2 TB of Google One storage, which alone would otherwise cost $9.99 per month.
For developers, AI Pro increases limits across Jules, Gemini Code Assist, Gemini CLI and Antigravity. Jules, Google’s asynchronous coding agent, gets five times higher limits compared to free users, making it suitable for daily development work.
AI Pro also unlocks Whisk Animate and Flow, Google’s AI video and filmmaking tools, and introduces a monthly allowance of 1,000 AI Credits. These credits are consumed per generation, not per request, and can now be topped up, something previously exclusive to AI Ultra.
Google AI Ultra
Google AI Ultra is positioned at the extreme end of Google’s AI offerings. It costs $249.99 per month in the US and is available in over 150 countries. This tier is designed for power users, researchers, creators and teams running large-scale AI workflows.
Ultra subscribers get Whisk and Flow bundled with 12,500 AI Credits per month. In the Gemini app, daily limits increase dramatically. Thinking and Pro models allow up to 500 prompts per day. Gemini Agent supports 200 agent requests per day, with three concurrent agent tasks running at once.
Deep Research using Pro jumps to 200 reports per day. Deep Think is also exclusive here, offering 10 prompts per day with a massive 192,000-token context window. Image generation reaches its highest limits, with Nano Banana Pro allowing up to 1,000 images per day. Veo 3.1 supports five video generations daily.
In Google Search AI Mode, AI Ultra provides the highest level of access across Gemini 3 Pro, Nano Banana Pro and agentic features. Google Home Premium Advanced is included by default, offering 60 days of event-based video history, 10 days of continuous recording, richer AI descriptions, Home Brief daily summaries and video history search.
Google Photos reaches the highest remix and photo-to-video generation tier. Developer tools receive maximum limits, with Jules offering 20 times higher capacity for intensive, multi-agent workflows, alongside the highest request caps for Gemini Code Assist and Gemini CLI.
NotebookLM sees its most dramatic expansion under AI Ultra. Users can create notebooks with up to 600 sources, run 5,000 chats per day, generate 200 Audio Overviews and 200 Video Overviews daily, and produce up to 1,000 reports, flashcards, quizzes and infographics per day. Watermark removal is included for infographics and slide decks.
Storage jumps to 30 TB, a plan that would otherwise cost $149.99 per month on its own. YouTube Premium is also bundled, saving an additional $13.99 monthly.
Finally, AI Ultra unlocks Project Mariner, Google’s experimental browser agent system that can run up to 10 tasks simultaneously, including research, shopping and travel bookings.
