Google has announced a new “Purchases” tab in Gmail that will make it easier for users to manage their package deliveries. The feature, rolling out globally on mobile and web, will allow personal Google account holders to see all purchase-related emails, including past orders and shipments, under a single view.
The update builds on Gmail’s package-tracking tool launched in 2022, which shows delivery updates directly in the inbox without requiring users to check individual courier websites. Packages arriving within 24 hours will continue to appear at the top of the inbox, while the new tab consolidates broader purchase details for easier access.
Google highlighted that the feature will be especially useful during the holiday season, when a surge in online shopping creates a flood of order confirmations and delivery updates. PwC’s 2025 holiday outlook estimates that nearly 39% of total gift spending will occur in the five days between Thanksgiving and Cyber Monday, a period when the new tab could simplify tracking multiple shipments.
Alongside the Purchases tab, Gmail is also improving its Promotions category. A new option to sort promotional emails by “most relevant” will help users see deals from brands they care about, while timely nudges will surface ongoing sales and limited-time offers. This update will begin rolling out to mobile users in the coming weeks.
