With winter in full swing, geysers and room heaters become essential, leading to increased electricity consumption. These appliances, while convenient, can significantly impact monthly energy bills. Here are 10 practical tips to help reduce electricity costs without compromising comfort.

Turn on auto cut-off mode for room heaters

Room heaters come with auto-cutoff mode. The feature is usually enabled by default, however, if your heater has a button or switch for that, make sure it is turned on. Doing this will automatically switch off the heater to help save on the electricity bill.

Use energy-efficient appliances

Opt for appliances with high energy-efficiency ratings, such as geysers with 5-star energy labels and heaters with modern energy-saving technologies.

Insulate your home

Proper insulation prevents heat loss, reducing the need for prolonged heater usage. Use heavy curtains, seal gaps in windows and doors, and consider under-door draft stoppers.

Limit hot water usage

Avoid keeping the geyser on throughout the day. Turn it on only when needed, and consider using cold water for washing hands or other tasks where hot water isn’t essential.

Opt for space heaters

Instead of heating an entire room, use a space heater to focus warmth in specific areas. Infrared heaters are particularly effective for this purpose.

Install a timer for your geyser

Using a timer helps control when the geyser operates, ensuring it doesn’t consume electricity unnecessarily during non-usage hours.

Wear warm clothing indoors

Reducing reliance on heaters is possible by layering up with warm clothing and using blankets to stay comfortable.

Perform regular maintenance

Clean geyser tanks to prevent sediment buildup and service heaters to ensure they operate efficiently.

Turn off devices when not in use

Unplug geysers and heaters when not in use to prevent standby power consumption.

Use smart devices like plugs or switches

Smart home devices allow you to turn on and off the geysers or heaters at a set time and keep it turned off automatically when not in use. This can come in really handy.
