Facebook will limit reach of accounts sharing spammy content

Impersonation is another issue Facebook is tackling. Many creators have faced fake accounts pretending to be them. Facebook has already removed millions of these fake profiles, and now it’s making it easier for creators to report and block these impersonators.

Facebook is making some big changes to clean up its platform and give creators a fairer shot at reaching their audience. If you’ve ever been frustrated by spammy posts filling up your feed, you’re not alone—and Facebook is listening.

The social media giant is cracking down on accounts that try to game the system to get more views or followers quickly. These accounts often share irrelevant or repetitive content, like a picture of a cute dog with a caption about airplane facts, or use tons of hashtags just to grab attention. Moving forward, if you post that kind of content, it won’t be shown to anyone beyond your followers, and you won’t be able to make money from it either.

But that’s not all—Facebook is cracking down on fake engagement. Some spam networks create hundreds of fake accounts to push their content, making it harder for real creators to stand out. To stop this, Facebook will limit the reach of these accounts and work harder to remove fake engagement, like coordinated comments. In fact, in 2024, Facebook took down over 100 million fake pages that were inflating reach.

Impersonation is another issue Facebook is tackling. Many creators have faced fake accounts pretending to be them. Facebook has already removed millions of these fake profiles, and now it’s making it easier for creators to report and block these impersonators.

The goal here is simple: Facebook wants to make sure that creators who share original and meaningful content get the attention they deserve. So, if you’re a creator, Facebook is promising to make it easier for you to succeed while pushing spammy content to the sidelines.
