When Amazon Web Services went down recently, it caused trouble for many popular apps and messaging platforms. Users of Signal, Snapchat, Zoom, and several other services found themselves unable to use their apps for a few hours. The outage affected people around the world, from London to Tokyo.

Elon Musk noticed the situation and quickly shared his thoughts on X, his social media platform. He pointed out that it was surprising that Signal, which advertises itself as a secure messaging app, had gone offline because of AWS. Musk joked that being dependent on a single company for cloud services was risky. Quoting a user, he said, “It means that AWS is in the loop and can take out Signal at any time.”

Musk also used the opportunity to promote X Chat, highlighting that it does not rely on AWS. He emphasized privacy, claiming that not even he could read users’ messages. X Chat also offers encrypted audio and video calls without needing to share a phone number. According to Musk, X Chat stayed online while other apps faced problems, showing that it is more reliable.

AWS confirmed that its services returned to normal by Monday afternoon. Some apps, however, experienced delays as they worked through a backlog of messages. The outage caused small disruptions in daily life, from making payments to joining video meetings.

The incident drew attention to the risks of relying too much on one cloud provider and why some tech leaders are exploring alternatives. Musk’s comments also highlighted the competition in the messaging world, where companies are trying to show which platform is safer and more dependable.

Even though the outage lasted only a few hours, it created a buzz online. Users shared their frustrations, tech observers discussed the implications, and Musk once again used the moment to make his point about X Chat. For many, it was a reminder that even the biggest tech companies can face unexpected problems, and the race for secure, independent platforms is ongoing.
