Elon Musk has a big plan for his social media platform, X. He wants to turn it into an “Everything App” like China’s WeChat. But what does that mean, and when will this happen?

What is Musk’s X everything app?

Musk’s goal is to make X more than just a social media platform. He envisions an app where people can chat, make payments, book rides, control smart home devices, and much more—all in one place. This would be similar to WeChat, which is used daily by over a billion people in China.

WeChat started as a messaging app but soon expanded to include many services, from paying bills to buying movie tickets. Musk wants to bring this concept to X, making it an essential tool for people’s everyday lives.

Is X everything app similar to WeChat?

WeChat works by allowing mini-apps to run inside it, meaning users don’t have to leave the app to complete different tasks. Instead of switching between various apps for banking, shopping, or booking a cab, everything is available within WeChat.

Musk wants X to function the same way. Instead of just posting updates and chatting, users will be able to make payments, book services, and even access financial accounts—all without leaving the app.

When will X become an everything app?

Linda Yaccarino, the CEO of X, has confirmed that X will start getting few services under its hood starting this year. The first major feature that X will get is the financial services. For that the company has partnered with Visa. They are launching a service called “X Money,” which will compete with digital payment platforms like PayPal and Venmo. This is expected to roll out later this year.

Turning X into an “Everything App” won’t be easy. In China, WeChat grew quickly because there weren’t many competitors, and the government supported its development. However, in the West, there are many strong apps in different areas which will make it harder for X to dominate the market. Moreover, some people are skeptical about trusting X with their financial transactions, especially given Musk’s controversial decisions.
