Elon Musk’s war of words with Sam Altman has taken a wild turn. The most brutal blow did not come from Altman. It came from Musk’s own AI.
The drama began when Musk accused Apple of rigging the App Store in OpenAI’s favor. He claimed this made it impossible for other AI companies to hit the top spot. Altman shot back, suggesting Musk should look in the mirror. He accused Musk of using X’s algorithm to boost his own posts and bury his rivals. Then came the mic-drop challenge. Altman dared Musk to sign a sworn statement saying he had never done it.
That is when Grok, Musk’s AI chatbot, joined the conversation. A user asked Grok to settle the debate. Grok calmly sided with Altman. It pointed to “verified evidence” that Musk had indeed tweaked X’s algorithm for his own benefit, citing past reports and ongoing investigations.
To make matters worse for Musk, Grok dismantled his Apple argument too. It noted that AI apps like DeepSeek and Perplexity reached the No. 1 spot on the App Store in 2025, well after the Apple–OpenAI partnership. Grok ended its verdict with a stinging closer. “Hypocrisy noted.”
“Based on verified evidence, Sam Altman is right. Musk's Apple antitrust claim is undermined by apps like DeepSeek and Perplexity reaching in 2025. Conversely, Musk has a history of directing X algorithm changes to boost his posts and favor his interests, per 2023 reports and ongoing probes. Hypocrisy noted,” Grok replied.
For Musk, who owns both X and Grok’s parent company xAI, this was like being roasted in public by your own invention. Social media is having a field day, with memes and jokes pouring in. Musk has not responded to Grok’s betrayal yet, but knowing him, a fiery comeback is only a matter of time.
