Elon Musk is going back to his intense work routine of seven days a week and sleeping in the office but this time, there’s one condition. The billionaire CEO of Tesla and SpaceX said in a recent post on X (formerly Twitter) that he’ll only go back to this hectic schedule if his little kids are away.
“Back to working 7 days a week and sleeping in the office if my little kids are away,” Musk wrote, while sharing an old clip of himself talking about the painful experience of working non-stop. In that video, Musk admitted that working so many hours was mentally and physically exhausting, saying it “hurts my brain and my heart.”
This isn’t the first time Musk has talked about his extreme work habits. In past interviews, Musk revealed he once worked up to 120 hours a week when Tesla was struggling to deliver the Model 3. The company was losing millions every week, and Musk spent nights fixing issues on the factory floor.
He’s even said he slept on the factory floor for three straight years. Sometimes it was on a couch, sometimes under his desk, and at one point, even in a tent on the roof of Tesla’s factory. “It was damn uncomfortable,” Musk admitted, adding that he often woke up smelling like metal dust.
Earlier this year, Musk also mentioned that his DOGE team (Department of Government Efficiency) clocks in 120-hour work weeks. While Musk calls it dedication, critics have often pointed out that such work culture isn’t always healthy.
Still, Musk seems ready to go back to factory life — as long as the kids aren’t home.
