Duolingo, the popular tech platform focused on teaching languages, mathematics, and music, announced new AI-based features at its annual Duocon 2024 conference. The company is adding an advanced Video Call feature and an Adventures game to its platform, to improve the way users learn languages. These new tools aim to make learning more interactive and enjoyable for Duolingo users globally.
The highlight of the Duocon 2024 event was the introduction of the ‘Video Call with Lily’ feature, which is now available for subscribers of the Duolingo Max tier. This tool lets users converse with Lily, a virtual character, providing an immersive and interactive experience.
Moreover, the Video call feature is aimed to simulate natural dialogue and offer a personalized experience to users. The AI-powered video calling feature is not restricted to any level of expertise in the language and can be even used by users who are looking to learn a new language.
The company has partnered with Loog, a popular portable instrument maker, and held an engaging conversation with Grammy winner Jon Batiste to offer users to practice Duolingo Music lessons on a three-octave digital piano. The Duolingo x Loog Piano pack is priced at $249 (around Rs 20,500) and can be pre-ordered from the company's website.
Apart from this, a new feature, Adventures, is also being introduced. The company describes it as a ‘game-like experience’, and it lets users play out different storylines and interact with the characters to improve their language proficiency.
We get characters like Oscar and Lily applying their language skills to real-life scenarios, such as ordering coffee or getting a passport checked. This interactive feature makes learning more engaging and helps users apply what they’ve learned practically.
