DuckDuckGo has rolled out a new feature that allows users to filter out AI-generated images from their search results. As synthetic content becomes more common online, this move gives users the option to view only real, authentic images — a direct response to concerns about AI visuals flooding image search results.
How to use DuckDuckGo’s AI image filterThe filter is available directly on DuckDuckGo’s image search and in its browser. To hide AI-generated images:
Run a search and switch to the “Images” tab
Click the “AI images” dropdown in the toolbar
Select Hide
This instantly removes AI visuals from the results. You can also enable the “Hide AI-Generated Images” option in search settings for a consistent experience. Alternatively, visiting noai.duckduckgo.com turns on the filter by default.
How the filtering worksDuckDuckGo uses open-source blocklists from projects like uBlockOrigin and uBlacklist, which maintain a database of sites known to host AI-generated images. When the filter is enabled, it automatically removes flagged content from your search.
While not perfect, the tool significantly reduces synthetic image clutter. DuckDuckGo has acknowledged the possibility of false negatives and says future updates will improve detection and filtering
