Days Gone Remastered announced for PS5: Release date, game modes and more

Days Gone Remastered is coming to PS5 this year, Sony announced in its February 2025 State of Play event. The Japanese tech and gaming giant also confirmed the release date of the remastered post-apocalyptic action-adventure RPG; it will launch on April 25, 2025. Days Gone Remastered comes with new features and modes like the Permadeath mode, Speedrun mode, Horde Assault, Enhanced Photo Mode, etc.

Days Gone Remastered: The Permadeath mode

The Permadeath mode in Days Gone Remastered challenges you to complete the journey of Deacon St. John in one single playthrough without dying. As per the developers, “In a world where everything is out to kill you, your skills will be tested to the limit and mastery is required to conquer Permadeath mode”.

If you die in the Permadeath mode, “you must either return to the beginning of the game or the start of the second act and try your luck again – dependent on which setting you choose”.

Players who successfully complete the Permadeath mode will be rewarded with a “shiny new PlayStation Trophy” and a “special graphic” recording the total time they took to complete the challenge, with unique stats like how many Freakers they killed during the playthrough, etc.

All the new game modes in Days Gone Remastered have new Trophy packs for players to unlock.

Days Gone Remastered: Horde Assault

The Horde Assualt mode in Days Gone Remastered is a survival arcade mode in which your goal is to survive “against increased horde sizes and various other enemies, like vicious survivors and evolved Freakers” and achieve as high a score as possible. The longer you survive, the tougher the enemies become. The Horde Assault mode features familiar regions from the Days Gone story like Cascade, Belknap, Lost Lake and Crater Lake.

Days Gone Remastered: PS4 and PC players can get the upgrade/new features too!

If you own a PS4 copy of Days Gone, you can upgrade it to Days Gone Remastered by paying $10. PC players of Days Gone will also benefit from the additional content being introduced in Days Gone Remastered.

The new features and modes of Days Gone Remastered will be made available for PC players of Days Gone (Steam and Epic Games Store) on April 25 itself (same time, too) as part of the Broken Roads DLC, priced at $10. So, if you already have Days Gone on PC, purchase the Broken Road DLC to get the following bonus content: Horde Assault, Permadeath mode, Speedrun mode, DualSense haptic feedback support, new accessibility features and Enhanced Photo Mode.
