Anthropic has launched plugin support for Claude Code, expanding its developer capabilities with a new system that lets users customize, extend, and share coding workflows more efficiently. The update, now in public beta, enables developers to install plugins directly within Claude Code using the new /plugin command, providing a modular way to manage tools and integrations.
Features and use casesThe new Claude Code plugins package and share any combination of slash commands, sub-agents, MCP servers, and workflow hooks — all installable with a single command. These plugins allow developers to toggle capabilities on or off as needed, reducing complexity while maintaining flexibility across their development environment.
Common use cases include enforcing code review standards, automating DevOps workflows, and connecting internal tools through the Model Context Protocol (MCP). Engineering teams can also use plugins to maintain consistency across projects, while open-source maintainers can offer ready-to-use commands for contributors.
Plugin marketplaces and community supportAnthropic has also introduced plugin marketplaces, where developers can discover and install curated plugin collections. Anyone can host a marketplace through a GitHub repository or URL containing a .claude-plugin/marketplace.json file.
Community-led marketplaces are already active, featuring plugins for DevOps automation, documentation generation, testing suites, and Claude Agent SDK development. Anthropic has also shared example plugins for PR reviews, security checks, and even a meta-plugin for building new plugins.
