A new generation of passenger electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft developed in China has taken center stage at the 8th China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai. According to a report by CGTN, the showcase highlights China’s growing capabilities in urban air mobility and its focus on sustainable, low-altitude transportation solutions.
INFLYNC L600
Among the major attractions was the INFLYNC L600, described as the world’s first full-size tiltwing ducted-fan eVTOL. The aircraft features a wingspan of 13.5 meters, a length of 10 meters, and a height of 3.5 meters. It has a maximum take-off weight of 2.8 tons and a payload capacity of 620 kilograms.
The L600 can travel up to 600 kilometers at a cruising speed of 360 km/h, powered by a hybrid extended-range system. It accommodates one pilot and five passengers, supporting multiple take-offs and landings on a single charge — a crucial feature for short-distance urban travel.
Features and technology
The INFLYNC L600 adopts a full tiltwing design combined with ducted-fan propulsion. This configuration allows vertical take-off and landing while maintaining efficient forward flight, bridging the gap between helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft.
The eVTOLs showcased at the event reflect China’s advancements in distributed electric propulsion technology, which enables enhanced control, reduced noise, and increased safety. These aircraft aim to reduce reliance on traditional fuel-based aviation, aligning with global trends toward cleaner and smarter mobility.
Future of eVTOLs in China
According to the report, eVTOLs are expected to complement existing ground transportation systems in the future. They are seen as a potential solution for urban congestion, offering faster, more efficient intercity and intracity connections.
With growing government support for low-altitude airspace reform and sustainable mobility, eVTOLs could play a major role in shaping China’s next phase of smart transportation infrastructure.
