OpenAI’s ChatGPT suffered a significant global outage on June 10, 2025, with users reporting widespread disruptions in accessing the AI chatbot. According to Downdetector, the platform recorded a sudden spike in problem reports beginning shortly before 3 PM IST, with over 1,100 user complaints at the peak.
Data from Downdetector shows that 93% of the reported issues were related to ChatGPT specifically, followed by 7% concerning the OpenAI app and 1% relating to login difficulties. The reports began surging around 2:45 PM and peaked at 3:02 PM IST. Prior to the spike, ChatGPT’s services had seen minimal disruption over the previous 24 hours.
Users across social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter) have been posting screenshots of blank chat windows, incomplete responses, server errors, and loading failures. Many users also reported being logged out or stuck in a login loop. Others claimed the chatbot became unresponsive during active sessions, resulting in lost work or conversations.
Service status
At the time of writing, OpenAI has not officially commented on the root cause of the outage. The company’s official service status page had not been updated to reflect the disruption. The outage appears to be affecting both free-tier and ChatGPT Plus subscribers, regardless of region.
The spike in error reports indicates a possible server-side issue or overload, but no confirmation has been provided by OpenAI. Technical teams are likely investigating the incident, and a fix may be deployed soon. Past incidents of similar scale have typically been resolved within a few hours.

What users can do
Until the issue is resolved, users are advised to avoid refreshing sessions repeatedly or re-entering login details, which may not help and could lead to additional security verification steps. Downdetector’s live outage map is currently showing high concentrations of reports from North America, Europe, and India.
