ChatGPT is introducing a new feature aimed at making it easier for people to understand complex math and science concepts. The AI chatbot will now offer interactive visual explanations that allow users to explore formulas, graphs and variables in real time, turning abstract ideas into something more practical and easier to grasp.

According to OpenAI, more than 140 million people already use ChatGPT every week to understand math and science topics. Many users rely on the platform to explore new subjects, work through homework problems, prepare for exams and break down ideas they have always found difficult.

Math, in particular, can be intimidating for many learners. A recent survey by Gallup found that more than half of adults in the United States say they struggle with math. The survey also showed that many parents feel unsure about helping their children with the subject.

With the new update, ChatGPT aims to make learning these concepts more engaging. Instead of only providing text explanations, the chatbot can now show dynamic visual modules for more than 70 core math and science topics. When users ask about a concept, ChatGPT can present interactive visuals where they can adjust variables, experiment with formulas and instantly see how the changes affect graphs or results.

For example, if someone asks about the Pythagorean theorem, the chatbot may display a visual explanation that allows users to manipulate the sides of a triangle and see how the equation works. Similarly, concepts such as the Ideal gas law or Coulomb's law can be explored through interactive demonstrations.

Education experts say visual and interactive learning can often be more effective than traditional explanations. By experimenting with variables and seeing immediate results, learners may better understand how different elements of an equation or scientific principle are connected.

Anjini Grover, a high school mathematics teacher, said the feature stands out because it focuses on conceptual understanding rather than simply solving a problem. She noted that the tool encourages learners to think deeper about how and why formulas work.

Early testing also suggests that the feature may help both students and parents. High school and college students reported that the interactive approach helped them better understand how variables relate to each other, while parents said it made it easier to walk through problems with their children.

The feature is rolling out globally starting today for all logged-in ChatGPT users across different plans. For now, the list of supported topics mainly covers high school and college-level math and science, including subjects such as exponential decay, kinetic energy, compound interest and surface area formulas.

OpenAI says this is only the beginning. The company plans to expand the interactive learning experience to more subjects over time while continuing to study how AI tools can support education and help learners build deeper understanding of complex ideas.
