US-based game developer Gearbox Software has confirmed the release date of Borderlands 4, the sequel to Borderlands 3. The next game in the Borderlands franchise of first-person shooting games will be released on September 23, 2025, as announced during Sony's State of Play February event.
Borderlands 4 is set on a fictional, hidden planet of Kairos and features four new Vault Hunters. In Borderlands 4, you will be part of the resistance that takes up arms against the Timekeeper, “a ruthless dictator who dominates the masses from on high”.
The Gearbox Software game also got a launch date trailer entirely dedicated to the gameplay. According to the devs, Borderlands 4 will feature “an all-new arsenal of outrageous weaponry” and players will be able to “move across the Borderlands like never before—double jumping, gliding, dodging, fixed-point grappling, and more—dealing death from every direction”. The new traversal mechanics add to the variety of attacks you can make. Take a look at the Borderlands 4 release date trailer, below:
Borderlands 4 can be played with up to 4 players in online co-op, just like in the previous entry. Or, you could go in solo. The upcoming looter shooter is also getting its very own State of Play event. There is a special Borderlands 4 State of Play scheduled for this Spring where we will get to know about the action shooter in much depth.
For those who haven't been a part of some Borderlands action ever and want to experience it, Borderlands 3 and 2 are selling at heavily discounted prices on Steam. Borderlands 3 is available at 90% off while Borderlands 2 is selling at 75% off. Both offers are valid till February 20.
