Bing Search grows as Google's share in Search market drops: All the details

After years of Google’s near-total dominance in search, Microsoft’s Bing is starting to make some quiet gains, thanks in large part to AI. New data from ComScore and StatCounter reveals that Bing has grown its market share over the past two years, while Google’s grip has slightly weakened.

Microsoft’s Head of Search, Jordi Ribas, shared the update on X, noting that since early 2023, Bing has grown by 2% (ComScore) and 3% (StatCounter). In the same period, Google’s share has dipped—by 1% and 6%, respectively. While these shifts might seem small, they mark a rare movement in a market where Google has long been unchallenged.

Ribas credits Bing’s momentum to its AI-driven innovations like Copilot Search, but there’s another ace up Microsoft’s sleeve: Bing powers parts of search for major AI assistants like ChatGPT and Meta AI. Every time these AI agents retrieve web results, Bing’s numbers get a boost.

While Google still holds the lion’s share of search traffic, the rise of AI tools is reshaping how people find information. The default search box isn’t the only gateway anymore—AI chatbots are increasingly becoming an alternative front door to the web.

For Microsoft, this is a rare opportunity. By embedding Bing into AI experiences, the company is leveraging the AI boom to quietly chip away at Google’s search monopoly. It’s early days, but in an AI-first world, even small shifts in search could signal a bigger disruption ahead.
