The Unicode Consortium has finalised its next set of emojis, which will roll out across devices in the coming year. The non-profit body is responsible for standardising digital language, ensuring that emojis appear consistently across platforms such as iOS and Android.
The upcoming additions include Bigfoot, an orca whale, a treasure chest, a trombone, an apple core, a bulging-eyes face, a fight cloud, a landslide, and a gender-neutral ballet dancer. These will be joined by updates that allow multiple-skin tone options for emojis featuring more than one person, such as the popular “people with bunny ears dancing” and wrestling emojis.
Emojis have long played a role in bridging communication between users on different devices, and each year the Unicode Consortium approves a new collection based on proposals from around the world. The latest update blends practical symbols with playful and eccentric options, extending the way users can express everyday conversations and unusual scenarios alike.
The new set will begin appearing on phones, laptops and other digital platforms once operating system providers integrate the Unicode update, which typically happens in the months following approval.
