Apple Watch SE 3 launched with Always-On display and fast charging

Apple has launched the Watch SE 3 at its September 9, 2025 event, introducing two major upgrades — an Always-On display and support for fast charging. The new SE model aims to bring popular features from premium Apple Watch models to a more affordable segment while maintaining the familiar lightweight design.

The biggest change comes with the inclusion of an Always-On Retina display, a first for the SE lineup. This feature allows users to check time, notifications, and fitness metrics without raising their wrist. Apple has paired this with enhanced durability, claiming the display now offers twice the scratch resistance compared to its predecessor.

Another key highlight is fast charging, which was previously limited to higher-end Apple Watch models. The Watch SE 3 charges up to 2x faster than the SE 2, with Apple stating that a 15-minute charge delivers around 8 hours of use. The watch can reach 80 percent in about 45 minutes, making it more convenient for users who track sleep overnight and need a quick recharge in the morning.

The Watch SE 3 also inherits several features from the Series 11, including irregular rhythm notifications, hypertension alerts, sleep tracking with scores, and deeper integration with Apple’s Workout Buddy for guided fitness routines. It runs on watchOS 12, supporting Live Translation, Notes, and Smart Stack hints. Connectivity improvements include 5G support and Wi-Fi 7 for faster performance.

Despite adding Always-On functionality, Apple has maintained up to 18 hours of all-day battery life. The company attributes this to efficiency gains from the new S9 SiP and a more power-efficient 5G modem. The watch is also designed with 100 percent recycled cobalt in the battery and uses a titanium-aluminum frame, in line with Apple’s sustainability push.

Apple Watch SE 3 starts at Rs 25,900 in India, with pre-orders opening today in more than 50 countries and regions, including the U.S., UK, Germany, Japan, and India. Retail availability begins Friday, September 19. The device will be offered in GPS and GPS + Cellular models.

Alongside the launch, watchOS 26 will be available from September 15 for Apple Watch Series 6 or later, SE (2nd generation) or later, and all Ultra models, requiring iPhone 11 or newer. New buyers will also get three months of Apple Fitness+ and Apple Music free.
