Apple is planning a major shake-up for its iPhone lineup with a foldable iPhone expected in 2026, according to Bloomberg. The device, codenamed V68, will open like a small tablet and is reported to have four cameras—one on the front, one inside, and two on the back. Interestingly, it will bring back Touch ID instead of Face ID and, like the upcoming iPhone Air, will not have a physical SIM-card slot.
Before the foldable arrives, Apple is preparing its 2025 iPhone lineup. The new iPhone Air will be thinner and lighter, following the MacBook Air approach, but will have only one rear camera, a smaller battery, and Apple’s first in-house modem chip. The iPhone 17, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro Max are also expected, but their designs won’t stray far from the iPhone 16, though the Pro models will get updated cameras and new color options like orange.
Apple is also rethinking screen technology for the foldable iPhone. The company is moving to in-cell touch sensors, which should reduce the crease on the unfolded display and improve touch responsiveness. Suppliers are already preparing for production early next year, aiming for a fall 2026 release.
Beyond iPhones, Apple has a busy product roadmap. This year, updates are coming for Apple Watch, Vision Pro headsets, iPad Pros, and AirPods Pro, including heart-rate monitoring features. The company is also exploring new products like a HomePod with a screen, display-less smart glasses, and even a tabletop robot.
Apple is boosting its services too. AppleCare One, a $20-per-month plan covering three devices, is already available, and Apple TV+ recently rose in price from $9.99 to $12.99. A paid Health+ service with AI-driven health advice is also expected next year.
On the AI front, Apple is exploring partnerships with Google, Anthropic, and OpenAI to enhance Siri. Meanwhile, it has lost several top AI executives to Meta, highlighting fierce competition for talent.
While 2025 may not bring revolutionary iPhones, the upcoming foldable model promises to be a game-changer, setting the stage for Apple’s next wave of innovation.
