Apple to drop support for 3 iPhones with iOS 19 release, check if your iPhone is in the list

Apple is set to drop support for these three iPhone models. If this turns out to be true, it means these devices won’t receive the latest OS updates anymore

Apple is getting ready for its big Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2025, happening from June 9th to June 13th. That’s when the company is expected to reveal iOS 19, the latest version of its mobile operating system. But along with new features, some older iPhones will be left behind. If you own an iPhone XR, iPhone XS, or iPhone XS Max, you might want to pay attention—these models are reportedly not getting iOS 19.

According to a report shared on X (formerly Twitter) and spotted by 9to5Mac, Apple is set to drop support for these three iPhone models. If this turns out to be true, it means these devices won’t receive the latest OS updates anymore, ending nearly six years of support. However, Apple might still release important security updates for them, just like it did for the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X, which were left out of last year’s iOS 18 update but still got iOS 16.7.11 for security fixes.

For reference, the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X were launched back in 2017 with prices starting at Rs 64,000, Rs 73,000, and Rs 89,900, respectively. Now, it looks like the iPhone XR, XS, and XS Max—released in 2018—are next in line to lose software support.

It’s not just iPhones being affected. The report also claims that Apple will drop support for the 7th-generation iPad, which launched in 2019 with a starting price of Rs 29,900. That means it won’t be eligible for iPadOS 19.

So, what’s new in iOS 19? Reports suggest that Apple is planning one of the biggest design overhauls ever. The new iOS version is rumored to take inspiration from visionOS, the operating system powering the Apple Vision Pro headset. This could mean a fresh look for apps, menus, icons, and system buttons. Plus, Apple is expected to change the way users interact with their devices, possibly introducing new control methods.

If you have one of the affected iPhone models, this doesn’t mean your phone will suddenly stop working—it just won’t get the newest features. But if you want to stay up to date with the latest Apple software, it might be time to start thinking about an upgrade.
