Cupertino-based tech giant Apple is reportedly working on the development of both humanoid and non-humanoid robots as part of its future smart home product lineup. Previous reports claimed that the tech giant is developing a new tabletop robot for the home that promises to be far more interactive than the traditional robots we’re familiar with until now. However, this new ambition of Apple has been revealed by Ming-Chi Kuo, who is a renowned supply chain analyst of the company.
Apple’s table top robot with life-like movements is in works
Kuo's insights follow reports that Apple’s robotics team has designed and prototyped a lamp-like robotic device with fluid, lifelike movements. This also aligns with previous claims by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who revealed that Apple is working on a Pixar-like tabletop robot, which would have an iPad-style display mounted on a robotic arm.
Further, this device could respond to custom voice commands such as and position the screen to users during various custom tasks, such as attending FaceTime calls. Additionally, it is also expected to feature voice recognition capabilities, which would allow the robot to differentiate between various users in a home.
However, Kuo stated that this concept remains to be on a proof-of-concept stage with the company, and if Apple decides to make mass market products out of this innovation, it would still be a few years away. Hence, the report adds that this new product line could be launched somewhere in 2028.
