Apple says it will fix its Apple Intelligence notifications summary mess

Apple Intelligence has been messing up the notifications summary bit. The issue came to the fore after BBC filed a formal complaint against Apple when the latter claimed in its notifications summary that Luigi Mangione, who was accused of killing the UnitedHealthcare chief executive, Brian Thompson, had died by suicide. However, the truth is that Luigi is currently in prison. Another blunder by Apple Intelligence occurred when it claimed that tennis player Rafael Nadal had come out as gay. However, there is no truth to the matter.

Issuing a clarification to the BBC, Apple claimed that it will fix the notification summary issues.“Apple Intelligence features are in beta and we are continuously making improvements with the help of user feedback,” Apple told BBC.

“A software update in the coming weeks will further clarify when the text being displayed is summarisation provided by Apple Intelligence. We encourage users to report a concern if they view an unexpected notification summary,” the Cupertino-giant further said.

Apple introduced Apple Intelligence this year with iOS 18.1. Among the multiple features introduced with Apple Intelligence, the notification summary feature was designed to help users focus on what matters. The Apple AI organizes your notifications and, instead of showing everything at once, creates a summary of the most important updates. You can customize notification summaries by going to the Settings menu, tapping Notifications, and then turning on Summarize Previews. After that, you can select the notifications you want to summarize. This feature can also be turned off by going to the Settings menu and turning off the Summarize Previews toggle.
