Apple’s WWDC 2025 keynote likely to focus more on software updates, less on AI

Apple WWDC 2025

Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2025 keynote is set to be held next week, between June 9-13. The Cupertino-based tech giant has confirmed to unveil platform updates across all of its operating systems, including the next version of iOS. However, the company is still behind schedule on its previously announced AI features, and according to a new report, “the conference may be a letdown from an AI standpoint.”

WWDC 2025: Here’s what we can expect

In his latest Power-On newsletter, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has stated that Apple is not planning any major new features for its Apple Intelligence suite in the upcoming WWDC 2025 keynote, and will instead focus on significant updates to its operating systems across devices, including for iPhones, iPads, MacBooks, and more.

Last year at WWDC 2024, Apple unveiled Apple Intelligence with a suite of AI features and announced a revamped Siri powered by ChatGPT. However, this year, Gurman states that, "there are no major new devices ready to ship, " with the company unlikely to make efforts to show it is keeping pace with leading generative AI players like OpenAI and Google, who have introduced advanced AI features in the last few months.

Interestingly, as per the report, Apple could announce letting third-party app developers access its in-house large language models (LLMs) to add useful AI features within the system apps, or create new AI-powered apps. Moreover, the company could have major announcements at next year’s WWDC, in hopes of convincing consumers of its AI leadership.
