Apple has released its first official adoption statistics for iOS 18 since the operating system launched in September. The data reveals that iOS 18 adoption is closely tracking with last year’s iOS 17 rollout.
As of now, iOS 18 is installed on 76% of iPhones introduced in the past four years, while iPadOS 18 is running on 63% of iPads from the same timeframe. Across all iPhones, 68% have upgraded to iOS 18, and 53% of all iPads are using iPadOS 18.
Older versions of the operating systems still hold a significant share. For iPhones, 19% are on iOS 17, while 13% remain on earlier versions. Similarly, 28% of iPads are running iPadOS 17, and 19% are on older versions of iPadOS.
Comparing these numbers to last year’s data, iOS 17 was installed on 76% of iPhones from the previous four years by early February, with 66% of all iPhones running the update. On iPads, 61% of devices from the last four years were using iPadOS 17, while 53% of all iPads had upgraded.
Apple is reporting these figures slightly earlier this year. Upcoming updates, such as iOS 18.3 and iPadOS 18.3, expected next week, could further drive adoption.
The iOS 18.4 update in April is set to introduce significant new Siri capabilities for Apple Intelligence-compatible devices, potentially spurring another wave of upgrades.
While iOS 18 is compatible with iPhones as old as the iPhone XS/XR, advanced features tied to Apple Intelligence are limited to newer models, such as the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16 models. This hardware limitation may deter some users with older devices from updating.
